True Grit is for everybody!
Obstacle Course Racing (OCR), especially since its {sort of} inclusion in the Olympics and because of TV shows like Australian Ninja Warrior, is beginning to be seen as these events that are only for the ultra fit, the super competitive, the strong of will and of might.
But it shouldn’t be, it should be for everyone. True Grit is for everyone, regardless of age, gender or fitness level.
Don’t get us wrong, we love seeing our Elite waves of super athletes setting superhuman times around our courses. But nothing hits us harder than seeing teams of friends, families, colleagues, mates from the gym or sports club, and strangers completing the courses together.
Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughs, hearing the encouragement as people try, fail, try again and succeed is the best thing in the OCR world. True Grit is supposed to be a challenge, it is supposed to be difficult, but it is total mud fuelled fun that is for everybody.
True Grit is about fun!
Just to highlight this, let’s look at a few of the amazing Gritters:
Jenny – Age is no barrier
At 88 years old, Jenny has set a remarkable example of what it means to embrace life’s challenges with an open heart and determined spirit. As the oldest participant in all of True Grit’s events, she embodies the mantra of “just give it a go” and proves that age is no barrier to adventure. Read more about Jenny here.
Cody – Set goals and achieve them
This young fella on the left is Cody. Cody has been recognised as an elite young talent and came to tackle the course and join the Elite Wave. It was well deserved. Cody didn’t really run the course, he set fire to it! He finished in 5th place! Take a bow young man! Interested in joining the Elite wave in SA? Visit here.
John – Standing up for a great cause
Meet John! John is a legend. Not only did he come and smash True Grit, he did it while representing our charity partner Invictus Australia, as part of TEAM VETERAN. He also did it while being one of our eldest on course – 75! Invictus Australia is an amazing organisation and we encourage you to visit their website and see the amazing work they do.
Mr 17 – He’s a maniac, and we love him!
We always speak about the commitment and loyalty of our Gritters. This champion’s name is ever changing – on the Saturday of the NSW 2025 event he was “Mr 16” to commemorate his 16th run of a True Grit course. Mr 16 has run the course in every state. But on Sunday he became “Mr 17” – he’s a maniac, and we love him! We are sure he’ll be there in QLD, come along and be a maniac like him!
Come along and join the Gritters!

True Grit wouldn’t be possible without the support of some amazing partners and locals who helped bring it all together:
