This event is held at Dargle Farm, on the Hawkesbury River in Lower Portland. Not far from Sydney, this True Grit course moves through a varying property of grasslands, temperate rainforest, dense swamps, granite escarpments and towering sandstone cliffs. It’s a stunning location with some amazing obstacles built into the natural terrain. A True Grit course not to miss!

To enter as an Elite, you must select the ‘Elite’ wave at 8.30am on the Saturday of event weekend. This will be the first wave out of the gate to kick off the event, and the top ten times of the event will be recorded at the finish line. Top 3 of both male and female will place on the podium and will receive a prize at our presentations (typically around 10am). Elites get first access to the course, before it’s been muddied up too much by everyone else! Our Elites do have a burpee penalty of 20 burpees for every obstacle failed or not attempted.

True Grit events are designed to test both physical and mental grit. You should cross train in both lower body endurance and upper body strength. All obstacles are designed to be completed at a basic level of fitness
We strongly recommend long pants, or leggings and long socks to make your course comfortable and provide protection. Running or hiking shoes are sufficient to attempt the course. Keep clothing light, as you are guaranteed to warm up during the course. Water bladders are a good way to keep rehydrated.

Our full course is the OG challenge; stretched out over 10km+, participants will tackle 30+ obstacles to cross that finish line victorious and earn that finisher t-shirt. Our half course is perfect for beginners, or those starting out on a fitness journey or perhaps returning to one. With 5km, packed full of 15+ obstacles, this is a great way to test the gritty waters before taking on the full course. You’ll still earn a t-shirt when you cross the finish line, but you’ll get a specialised ‘Half Course’ t-shirt – you’ll have to earn the Full finishers one next time!
True Grit encourages participants of all fitness levels! While some endurance to complete the course can help, there is absolutely no rule that says you have to run – so don’t let that stop you! If you’re concerned about the distance, the Half course is perfect for you – you can easily walk it in a few hours and take your time – enjoy the scenery and have a great go at the obstacles. There are also no rules that say you MUST complete all obstacles (unless you’re taking part in the Elite wave). With this exception, we do not enforce mandatory obstacles or any penalties for missed/failed obstacles. There are two training programs (Intermediate/Advanced) provided under the “True Grit Training” section on this website. True Grit events are designed to test both physical and mental grit; some find it more of a mental challenge than a physical one.
Your team can be as big as you want. Simply sign up under the same team name and in the same wave! We recommend a minimum of 2 people per team, just to ensure you have the extra hands that maybe needed to complete some obstacles.
All race participants need to be a minimum of 16 years of age for the FULL course and a minimum of 12 years of age for the HALF course. Anyone under 18 years of age will need to have a guardian or parent sign a waiver for participation. The event is open to both male and females. Children are allowed at the event, but typically as spectators unless they are taking on one of the Kids courses (select states only). Children must be supervised at all times.

A race clock will be at the start and finish points, but we do not record your time for you – that is up to each individual if they choose to keep track. For our Elite wave, we will record the finish times of the first 3 finishers, both male and female for our qualification processes.
The Wave time indicates the time you are scheduled to take off from the start line to tackle the course! You would have selected this upon registering, and you can always check your confirmation email to see what it was at any stage.
Typically there is at least one water station out on course, around the halfway mark. If you think you will need more water or breaks than this, we encourage you to take a hydro-pack or drink bottle with you.
Those taking on the Elite wave will leave in the first wave on the Saturday, at 8.30am. These individuals are taking on the course AS INDIVIDUALS and cannot have help from other participants during the event. During the event, they will have to attempt the harder version of each obstacle – the taller wall, the unknotted rope, etc. They will also have a ‘mystery’ obstacle revealed to them at the start line that will be compulsory, that is not required for regular Gritters to take on. Elite racers will also have to attempt every obstacle and there are certain obstacles that are mandatory for them to complete. Anything they fail (if not mandatory) will be met with a penalty of 20 burpees, before they can move on with their race. They are racing to complete in the fastest time, so that they can get a spot on the podium (both male and female) for the top 3. The top 3 will receive prizes for their efforts.
For those who have smashed our True Grit 10-12km courses we wanted an even bigger challenge so we took it to the next level. The Aussie Titles is a 24hr Obstacle Course event. Basically, our course will be open from 2pm on the Saturday afternoon to 2pm on the Sunday afternoon. That’s 24 hours of True Grit obstacle racing. It’s not for the faint hearted.
As long as you want it to be. The event is lap based with each lap approx. 11km. Each time you hit the course and finish, that’s one lap. Your aim, or your team’s aim, is to get out there for as many laps as your body can handle. So there is a start line, but you create the finish line depending how you tolerate the gruelling course. You just keep Gritting your teeth for the 24hr period or until your body physically can no longer go on.Toggle Content
The endurance event is open to all challengers and has solo and multiple team formats that make the concept of racing 24 hours palatable for most fitness levels. Racers are invited to challenge the course solo, in a gruelling and mentally demanding battle, or to register for the event as part of a two or four person team. Only one racer is allowed on course at a time, so the option is open to competitors to hit the course as hard as they like, then rest and enjoy the company of likeminded friends while waiting for team mates to return from their lap. Strategy will play a major part in how well a team performs and it is open to teams to take it as easy and friendly, or as hard and as serious, as they choose.
At the start of every lap you, or the team-mate heading out on course, must transition through a designated area in the start/finish area (Pit Area) to indicate that you or they have left the Pit Area. At the finish of every lap you must return to that area to indicate you have completed a lap. This will be a simple and seamless process. At the finish of every lap you have two choices; continue on and enter another consecutive lap, or pass on the active racing to a team mate. There will be an ankle timing ‘baton’ item that will be wearable and exchangeable between teammates. This ‘baton’ indicates the person who is ‘active’ on course. Solo competitors will wear this for the duration of the event. Teams must pass this item on to whoever is leaving for the course inside the start shoot in view of the Marshall. If you do not have this item on display at the registration tent, you cannot have the finish of your lap marked off. Do not forget to pass this item on to whoever heads out on course.
Yes, participants can stop to have a break, either by pitting in The Pit or at a warming station out on course. It is up to each Gritter to determine when they should take a break, depending on their body’s needs and their race strategy. It might be a solo decision, or the team might have to develop strategy to get the most out of each member throughout the event. It is key to note that participants will only be allowed to enter The Pit after finishing a complete lap. If participants enter The Pit any other time, they will be disqualified. Similarly, there is only one way back out on course. Any other entry to the course will result in a disqualification. The format of the Enduro allows individuals that enjoy extreme endurance to fulfil their needs! So there will be some men and women who literally do not stop for the full 24-hour period. At the very same time, people who either are not interested in such extreme levels of endurance, or would simply prefer to approach the event with a more relaxed attitude, can do so and enjoy the entire process with a group of friends. You can choose to run through the night, or decide you would prefer to have a sleep and get back into the event come the morning. All options are open. The answers to these questions will form your strategy for the event.
Food vendors will be set up in the Festival area (adjacent to the Pits area) and will have food and coffee for purchase up until around 10.30pm, opening again at 7am. Please note, there is no EFTPOS or mobile coverage available onsite. It is advisable to bring food with you also if you are racing, and is best to test out your food and nutrition strategy prior to the event in your training sessions. A good nutrition plan is vital to keep you energised and hydrated.
The event finishes at the 24-hour mark. If you are part way on course when the 24 hours ends, that lap will not count to your total. So, factoring in if you can squeeze another lap in will be critical in your strategy. The winner will be the person completes the most laps. In the event that people complete the same number of laps, the winner is the person who finishes that final lap first.
Support/pit crew passes are available for $29 each. Your support/pit crew will be able to register online ahead of the event. Passes will be by way of a wristband/lanyard and must be worn at all times. Your team and pit crew are all allowed access into the pit area on a 24hr basis. Wristbands will be allocated to registered support/pit crew when you check in at the event. Your Pit Crew also get their very own Pit Crew tee!

The team categories are a relay format, ie. only one of you is permitted out on course at any given time.
